On April 20, 2017, marijuana consumers in California will celebrate the first 420 holiday since the state passed Proposition 64 to legalize recreational marijuana. While the state has yet to set up regulations for its recreational market, adults can legally possess up to an ounce of marijuana and those with medical marijuana cards can still enjoy the freedoms available since 1996. If you’re in Southern California on April 20, here are five 420 events sure to bring high class, high laughs, and everything in between, to your holiday celebration.

Marijuana and Music

As a part of his Kloser 2 U Tour, Lil Wayne is playing at the Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre at San Diego State University on April 20, starting at 8 p.m. With a bevy of hip-hop lyrics that pay homage to marijuana, Lil Wayne’s show is for concertgoers ready to turn up.

Pot Parties

There are several marijuana themed parties taking place in Southern California on April 20, but Mecca’s 420 Wonderland and The Cannabis Social 420 Red Carpet Event stand out for their range in appeal.

Mecca Natural Medicine is hosting an Alice in Wonderland themed 420 celebration for medical marijuana cardholders. The event starts at 9 a.m. in Los Angeles, featuring free samples, a gift bag in exchange for a $60 donation, “Alice’s Smokeout” and a dab garden.

If you’re looking to dress up in cocktail attire instead of dabbing out in cannabis wonderland, The Cannabis Social 420 Red Carpet Event starts at 7 p.m. in San Diego’s AD Nightclub. While it costs $104.20 to attend, you’ll enjoy a sushi bar, live jazz, cannabis edibles and networking opportunities.

Cannabis Comedy

Cannabis and comedy have gone hand in hand since before the days of Cheech and Chong. If you’re looking to laugh out loud for your 420 celebration, you can see comedy in action or on the screen in SoCal.

For comedy in action, you can watch The 420 Show with Matt Besser at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre Los Angeles. Besser is one of the original members of the Upright Citizens Brigade, a sketch comedy group that had a three-season run on Comedy Central. Besser’s show is $5, plus a $1 transaction fee, and starts at 4:20 p.m.

If you’d rather sit back and enjoy a cannabis-themed movie, you can watch the stoner classic “Half Baked,” starring comedians Dave Chapelle and Jim Breuer, at The Wiltern in L.A. It costs $4.20 to attend, plus fees, and the film starts at 7 p.m.
