Remake of Prince Ea Music Video Addresses President Obama on Pot Policy

The hip hop artist and activist Prince Ea educates a President Obama impersonator on marijuana policy in his remake of the video for “Why Weed Should Be Legal,” released June 27, 2016.

In a blog post of the same day, Tony Newman, director of media relations at the Drug Policy Alliance, wrote, “This epic 10-minute video is both a history lesson and an advocacy tool that will expand your mind and make you laugh at the same time,” and called it “a personal and persuasive plea to President Obama to end our nation’s insane, racist and hypocritical war on marijuana users.”

The video features Obama impersonator Reggie Brown on a set designed to look like the Oval Office. For much of the video, white board-style illustrations walk viewers through historical, statistical, political and social aspects of marijuana policy and use.

“It’s exciting to see how much progress has been made since the first video was released four years ago,” Newman wrote. “When the original video came out, no states had legalized marijuana for adult use. Since then, Colorado, Washington, Oregon, Alaska and Washington DC have done just that—and now 2016 is shaping up to be the most significant year yet when it comes to ending marijuana prohibition, with voters in California, Massachusetts, Maine, Nevada and Arizona deciding on legalization this November.”
