In the world of television there is an unwritten rule that you should always assume the microphone is live. But during the College Football National Championship, ESPNU commentator and former basketball star Bill Walton forgot that rule.
Upon returning from a commercial break, Walton, who was dressed in a star spangled Uncle Sam costume, was caught in the middle of a pro-marijuana discussion where he called on amnesty for marijuana offenders.
“Marijuana should not be a Schedule I drug,” said Walton, to the approval of his colleagues. “And all the people who have been in trouble for it for all these years, Obama [should] just [issue] blanket amnesty and just move on to the future.”
This is not the first time that Walton has drawn attention for his pro-marijuana stance. The former NBA star drew attention and ire when he openly criticized the NCAA’s policy regarding marijuana during an ESPN 2 broadcast in 2015.
