On Dec. 9, 2016, the Natalie M. LaPrade Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission named the 102 recipients of Stage One dispensary license pre-approvals, concluding the state’s application process for growers, processors and dispensaries.

“These qualified entities will be on the front line providing medical cannabis to qualified patients in Maryland. They will have a tremendous responsibility in serving the legitimate needs of those patients that seek medical treatment,” said Dr. Paul W. Davies, Chairman for the Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission.

Of the 102 pre-approved dispensaries, the following 10 are also pre-approved to cultivate: Curio Dispensary BC, Doctors Orders Maryland, Freestate Wellness, Harvest of Maryland, HMS Health, Holistic Industries, Kind Therapeutics USA, Maryland Compassionate Care & Wellness, MaryMed and Temescal Wellness of Maryland.

Each licensee now has to undergo criminal background investigations, financial due diligence, compliance inspections by the MMCC and local zoning approvals, among other requirements. Once a licensee is compliant with all regulatory requirements, the MMCC will vote on final licensure.

“These dispensaries will be the new face of the medical cannabis industry in Maryland, once final licenses are issued,” said Patrick Jameson, Executive Director of the MMCC. “The Commission will tightly regulate these dispensaries and looks forward to a productive working relationship with their management and staff.”
