While the the Pennsylvania Department of Health has already processed hundreds of applications for cultivators, processors and dispensaries, laboratory hopefuls can now get in on the action. On May 11, 2017, the PADOH released the application to become an approved Pennsylvania medical marijuana laboratory.

“Testing laboratories are an essential part of our medically focused program,” said Sec. of Health Dr. Karen Murphy in a press release. “Once selected, these facilities will ensure the medication patients receive at dispensaries is safe and effective.”

In addition to including general ownership and personnel information, an applicant must include the most recent certificate of accreditation for its Pennsylvania-based laboratory; however, if the applicant has not been previously issued a certificate of accreditation by the PADOH, the applicant must include a copy of its contract with an accreditation body and evidence that the lab company has been previously accredited by another jurisdiction.

An applicant must also include a copy of the lab’s standard operating procedures, a detailed list of specialized lab equipment, a quality assurance program description and chain of custody procedures.
