On July 5, 2016, the Pennsylvania Department of Health announced that the application for the medical marijuana safe harbor letter is now available online for parents, legal guardians, caregivers or spouses who need approval letters to administer out-of-state medical marijuana to minors with serious medical conditions.

“I am excited to announce the availability of the Pennsylvania Safe Harbor Letter application, as it means children with serious medical conditions and those who care for them can begin to experience an increased quality of life,” said Dr. Karen Murphy, Pennsylvania Secretary of Health. “It’s very important to remember that approved Safe Harbor Letters should always be carried with individuals whenever medical marijuana is being transported and administered outside of the home.”

According to the DOH, each applicant needs a photo ID, completed background check and a Safe Harbor Letter Physician Form from the minor’s doctor.
