The outrage over United States Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ reversal of federal cannabis policy continues to grow, with a group of American mayors the latest to join the clarion call.

SEATTLE, Jan. 11, 2018 /Weed Wire/ — Seattle Mayor and former U.S. Attorney Jenny A. Durkan and Denver Mayor Michael Hancock led a letter to Attorney General Jeff Sessions criticizing the Department of Justice’s misguided rollback of the “Cole Memo,” which provided guidance on federal marijuana enforcement policy. The letter signed by ten Mayors from the across the country asks the Department of Justice to prioritize their efforts to combat the opioid epidemic instead of wasting law enforcement resources on legal marijuana.
On Jan. 20, 2017, marijuana activists in Philadelphia staged a peaceful protest and community outreach event in Rittenhouse Square.
The so-called emergency measure is supported by both Republican and Democratic leaders, who said state health officials and law enforcement are scrambling to solve a number of issues, including allowable forms and potency of medical marijuana, and oversight of distributors.
