CANBERRA, Australia, Feb. 24 /Weed Wire/ — Parliament has today passed the Turnbull Government’s historic legislation delivering the “missing piece” for Australian patients and their doctors to access a safe, legal and reliable supply of medicinal cannabis products for the management of painful and chronic conditions.
The Australian government has introduced legislation that would amend the Narcotics Drugs Act of 1967 to allow for the legal cultivation and distribution of medical marijuana.
Ninety-one percent of Australians reportedly favor legalization of marijuana for medical purposes. The strongest support comes from the over-50 set. In December, the federal government created a nationally-consistent licensing scheme to regulate the cultivation of cannabis for medicinal and scientific purposes.
