On Sept. 28, 2016, the University of Mexico announced the Medical Cannabis Research Fund. Associate Professor Jacob Vigil in the Department of Psychology created the MCRF to aid medical cannabis research in social and biomedical sciences.
The MCRF, a publicly-generated fund, is made up of UNM faculty, students and researchers from various disciplines, who want to conduct credible and objective research on medical cannabis.
“The goal is to better inform patients and health providers about the safety and efficacy of using Cannabis as a therapeutic pharmacological agent,” Vigil said. “Findings from studies, supported by the MCRF, are also intended to generate basic knowledge for directing fair and effective legislation over the regulation and use of medical Cannabis and Cannabis-based products.”
