Tom Lackey, an American politician currently serving in the California State Assembly, will be cracking open California’s Medical Marijuana Regulation and Safety Act at the California Cannabis Business Expo in San Francisco this March.

Lackey is a Republican representing California’s 36th district, encompassing parts of the Antelope Valley. Following his election to the State Assembly, Lackey was joint author of Assembly Bill 266, which was part of California’s landmark legislation, the Medical Marijuana Regulation and Safety Act. His focus has been creating a well-regulated medical marijuana framework that protects local control and public safety. Lackey has also been a champion of advancing new tools and strategies for law enforcement to fight drug-impaired driving. His work includes gaining authorization and funding for research beginning in 2016 at UC San Diego to examine the relationship between cannabis and driving-ability.

Lackey first entered elected public service as a member of the Palmdale Elementary School District Board of Trustees. He went on to serve two terms as a councilmember for City of Palmdale from 2005 to 2014. Lackey has been a strong advocate for public safety, education improvements and job growth through private sector economic development.

“The MMRSA is the first act passed in 2015 to regulate medical marijuana in California since Proposition 215 was passed in 1996. Tom’s participation is monumental and will provide insight into operating a legal cannabis business in California with this historical act being deployed through 2018,” said Randy Shipley, CEO of CannaFundr, a sponsor of the CCBE.

The California Cannabis Business Expo follows MJIC Media’s inaugural event, the Marijuana Investor Summit in Denver in April 2014, which drew more than 1,000 people and 100 exhibitors. The California Cannabis Business Expo in San Francisco is a unique opportunity to learn about the state of cannabis in California directly from those shaping the legal landscape.

Tickets to the California Cannabis Business Expo in San Francisco can be purchased online.
