On Feb. 25, 2016, the Alcohol and Marijuana Control Office announced that 68 applications for marijuana establishment licenses had been initiated on Feb. 24, opening day for application submissions.
According to AMCO’s announcement, “The public can expect to begin seeing public notices regarding prospective marijuana establishments this week.”
Once AMCO has marked an application complete, the application will then be forwarded to the local jurisdiction governing the application’s proposed location. Upon receipt of an application, the local government has 60 days to file a protest against it.
Licenses for testing and cultivation facilities will be approved first, with the Marijuana Control Board expecting approval of such licenses by June 2016.
The MBC is not restricted on the number of state licenses it can issue.
