BOULDER, Colo., April 18, 2016 /Weed Wire/ — Impressive applicants are joining the ranks of the booming Cannabis industry. Leading MIP manufacturer Wana Brands has announced the appointment of former NASA employee Elizabeth Woodard as Quality Assurance Lead. Wana Brands Director of Operations Mica Gross made the announcement.
“You don’t have to be an Astrophysicist to break into the Cannabis industry, but it doesn’t hurt,” Mica noted. “Jobs in this burgeoning industry are coveted by applicants of all backgrounds, which gives companies like Wana the opportunity to hire candidates with years of unique experience, making the Cannabis industry more mainstream than ever and offering the opportunity to learn from some of the most buttoned up environments in the world.”
As Quality Assurance Lead, Elizabeth works to ensure products meet all the quality attributes – safety, efficiency, potency and purity – required by customers and regulatory agencies. She is accountable for activities involved in Quality oversight for issuance of master batch records and associated documentation, as well as tracking of investigations, change controls and action items as they relate to material release activities.
Prior to joining Wana, Elizabeth held multiple positions at CW Botanicals including Extraction Lab Manager managing a team of six lab techs, and Final Products Supervisor where she supervised production and packaging and ensured quality, purity and FDA compliance. Previously, Elizabeth was the Cassini Mission Research Assistant at NASA where she researched the presence of atmospheric gases on Saturn from data obtained from the Cassini satellite. Elizabeth graduated from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Science in Astrophysics.
Elizabeth will work on a compliance team headed by Mica, who joined Wana with over 15 years of diverse experience in project management, food and supplement production, and product and organizational development. Mica has hands-on experience in CO2, ethanol and multi solvent extraction of cannabinoids and other functional compounds. He has also developed safety and compliance programs including cGMP and HACCP, which are mandated by the FDA for food, supplement and drug manufacturers.
Among Mica’s accomplishments: he worked with the first large scale CO2 extraction of Cannabis in Colorado; and led a team to achieve the first commercial plant tissue culture of cannabis. He has conducted research in stem cell therapeutics and hydroponics science; increased the bioavailability of functional compounds; and isolated and characterized new probiotic bacteria.
Mica will join leaders in the Cannabis industry at NCIA’s Cannabis Business Summit & Expo 2016 in Oakland from June 20-22, when he will be a panelist on the “FDA Regulatory Compliance” panel. Co-founder Nancy Whiteman will participate on the panel “Delivery and Dosage of Cannabis Medicine.” Don’t miss Wana Brands’ Whiteman at Marijuana Business Daily’s 2016 Spring Conference in Orlando from May 9-10 where she will participate on the panel “Developing a Dominant Infused Products Brand.”
