On June 19, 2016, during the California Democratic Party’s executive board meeting in Long Beach, the board voted to endorse the Adult Use of Marijuana Act, a ballot initiative that would legalize recreational marijuana in the state, according to The Sacramento Bee.

AUMA has already been endorsed by California Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom, NORML, the NAACP, the California Medical Association and the California ACLU.

According to the the Public Policy Institute of California, 60 percent of likely voters in California support the legalization of recreational cannabis. If AUMA qualifies for the state’s ballot in November, it would need more than 50 percent of votes to pass.
