On Nov. 23, 2015, Green Door Alternative, a medical marijuana dispensary in Detroit, will be giving away free turkeys to those in need who reside in its southwest neighborhood, living in zip codes 48209 and 48210.

According to WXYZ Detroit, Green Door Alternative is offering free turkeys in the spirit of Thanksgiving and as a means of enriching the community. Larry Hannah, the dispensary manager, said the turkeys are a way to “give back to the neighborhood, just to try and supply for some people that don’t have any ends to get what they need to for their Thanksgiving time.”

Hannah added, “I’ve been in the city my whole life. So we are very vested in the city. So it’s good to give back.”

Green Door Alternative is also collecting coats for Gleaners Food Bank. As to why the dispensary feels the desire to help those in need in its community, “The people in the neighborhood are just quality people,” Hannah explained.
