On August 2, 2017, the Florida Department of Health issued two more medical marijuana licenses. The highly coveted licenses went to Tornello Landscape, better known as “3 Boys Farm,” and Plants of Ruskin, as reported by the Orlando Sentinel.

Both 3 Boys Farm and Plants of Ruskin had previously applied to become medical marijuana providers when Florida legalized low-THC medical marijuana but ultimately failed to make the cut; as a result, both companies filed a lawsuit against the state for its application process.

However, under Florida’s new medical marijuana laws, licensing preference was given to applicants that were initially rejected by the Department of Health, had one or more pending judicial or administrative challenges, or scored within one point of their region’s highest scoring applicant.

In addition to the two new medical marijuana licenses, three more license applications are currently under review. Those applicants are Loop’s Nursery and Greenhouses, Treadwell Nursery and Sun Bulb Nurseries.

If approved, the department would still be required to license an additional five medical marijuana providers by Oct. 3, 2017.
