TALLAHASSEE, Fla., Feb. 1, 2017 /Weed Wire/ — Gerry Greenspoon, a prominent Florida attorney who has been involved in efforts to legalize medical cannabis in Florida, today announces the launch of the Organization for Safe Cannabis Regulation (OSCR), a nonprofit Florida corporation formed to ensure that the mandate of the voters under Amendment 2 is carried out by the Florida Legislature and Department of Health.

In cooperation with Florida for Care, OSCR will work to expand access to medical marijuana by creating a broad, well-regulated marketplace. To achieve that goal, OSCR will be advocating for laws that create independently “registered” entities that perform specific functions along the production and distribution chain.  Additionally, OSCR will advocate for the allowance of significantly more businesses to enter the marketplace.

The Chairman of OSCR is Gerry Greenspoon, Esq., the co-founder and managing partner of Greenspoon Marder.  Greenspoon Marder is an Am Law 200 and NLJ 350 law firm.

Matthew Ginder, Esq., manages the day-to-day operations of OSCR. OSCR will have the primary function of hiring lobbyists to advocate for its positions, as well as making contributions to certain political candidates.

“It is not a foregone conclusion that the Florida Legislature and the Department of Health will implement Article X, Section 29 of the Florida Constitution (formerly Amendment 2) in a manner that is consistent with OSCR’s position,” comments Gerald Greenspoon. “OSCR’s team of leading consultants, lobbyists and attorneys are excited and ready to advocate for Florida voters before the Legislature in Tallahassee.”

“Our organizations advocate for a strong, well-regulated medical marijuana system. Structure and restrictions are key with a more open-market system in place,” comments Ben Pollara, who leads Florida for Care.

The OSCR lobbying team consists of Steve Geller, Bill Helmich, David Sigerson, Michael Cantens and Richard Coates.

Greenspoon Marder expanded its national corporate practice in highly-regulated industries to include Cannabis Law in June 2016, along with the opening of three new offices in Denver, Las Vegas and San Diego – three cities in regions that are central to the advances, legalization and regulation of cannabis. The firm plans to continue to extend its presence and open additional offices in states that are likely to play a key role in shaping the cannabis industry.
