DENVER, Jan. 5, 2017 /Weed Wire/ — The Julian Marley JuJu Royal brand of both cannabis and CBD products will become available in Puerto Rico in January 2017 in a major expansion into the Caribbean’s most populated island.
The expansion of the JuJu Royal brand is possible through a licensing agreement with Natural Ventures PR, LLC. Located in Caguas, Natural Ventures PR is one of Puerto Rico’s first and largest licensed cultivation and manufacturing medical cannabis companies, featuring a 100,000 square foot indoor cultivation facility. Natural Ventures PR is also one of only two entities in Puerto Rico that has secured a manufacturer’s license for its 30,000-square-foot manufacturing facility. The major expansion is needed to supply the 75 dispensaries that will operate on the island.
In one of the first-of-its-kind, Natural Ventures PR accepted a proposal by the government of Puerto Rico to hire single mothers first, followed by military veterans and then opening up the hiring to the rest of the island’s population.
“All products manufactured in Puerto Rico, a U.S. island territory, will undergo strict government testing,” according to Tim Roegge, Vice President of Natural Ventures PR. “Our team has been impressed with how the program in Puerto Rico is being implemented. We are looking forward to bringing the most established and popular brands out of the U.S. to the patients of Puerto Rico. Julian Marley’s JuJu Royal is a brand we are confident this market will appreciate.”
Other Expansion Plans Eyed
“Our expansion into the Caribbean with this new licensing agreement is a major new stage for us since the Caribbean is where our namesake, Julian Marley, is from and makes this a perfect place to continue building the brand,” said Travis Belcher, CEO of Julian Marley’s JuJu Royal. “Julian has been very active in the promotion of the new products and he will play a major role in the opening and expansion of the products in Puerto Rico.”
The JuJu Royal brand is planning to move forward with operations in different regions that have made the plant legal around the world in 2017 and beyond. “We are also absolutely committed to the patients who use our products, and look forward to bringing the brand and its quality to those throughout the globe,” Belcher said.
In 2015, Puerto Rico legalized medical cannabis for qualifying health conditions and permits the use of medical cannabis derivatives only (e.g. capsules, extractions, lotions, patches, edibles, suppositories, flower and oils).
