FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., April 22, 2015 /Weed Wire/ — The New Mexico Department of Health’s Medical Cannabis Program has awarded BioTrackTHC™, a division of Bio-Tech Medical Software, Inc., a contract for the provision and deployment of an integrated patient and provider tracking software application. This award makes BioTrackTHC the cannabis industry’s first company with marijuana regulatory technology contracts in two states, following the company’s existing contract for the state of Washington’s Marijuana Seed-to-Sale Traceability System.
“I commend the New Mexico Department of Health on its comprehensive RFP process in securing the right technology and team for the state’s needs,” said Steven Siegel, CEO, BioTrackTHC. “Our experience implementing compliance technology in this sector will serve the state and the public well in maintaining a reliable and efficient regulatory infrastructure.”
The New Mexico Medical Cannabis Program (MCP) was created under the Lynn and Erin Compassionate Use Act to allow for the beneficial use of medical cannabis in a regulated system. In pursuit of its mission, the MCP issued an extensive RFP on July 22, 2014 for a software solution to maintain regulatory compliance. After extensive proposal evaluations and live software demonstrations, BioTrackTHC achieved a marijuana industry first: back-to-back government contract wins.
In addition to its medical cannabis seed-to-sale traceability system, BioTrackTHC’s contract-winning proposal includes a web-based registration system for all potential program cardholders (qualified patients, primary caregivers, licensed non profit producers, etc.) and a proprietary smartcard system designed to identify expired and counterfeited patient cards, as well as to prevent the over-dispensing of medical cannabis to any patient or caregiver.
“The hard working team at the MCP currently faces the extreme challenge of using disparate tools and manual processes,” said Patrick Vo, Co-CEO, BioTrackTHC. “We will provide New Mexico with an end-to-end solution that streamlines and automates the department’s processes; satisfies the federal government so they do not feel the need to intervene in the production and distribution of this badly needed medicine; all while establishing a system of controls that makes life easier for the industry’s good actors and locks out the bad ones. We are excited to bring a fully-integrated medical cannabis tracking approach to New Mexico.”
BioTrackTHC’s marijuana seed-to-sale Traceability System for government agencies is currently utilized by the state of Washington, and its marijuana seed-to-sale Enterprise System for businesses is currently utilized in over 1,000 medical cannabis and recreational cannabis facilities across 18 states, Washington D.C., Canada, and South America. These technologies enable government agencies and businesses to track every plant and every gram of cannabis throughout the entire production lifecycle—cultivation, harvest and cure, quality assurance testing, transportation, destruction, and sale—bringing transparency, accountability, and meaningful insights to cannabis operations. Securing this second government contract cements BioTrackTHC’s place as the leader in seed-to-sale tracking and as the regulatory model for legalized cannabis in the United States.
