In Arizona, marijuana advocates expect legalization to decrease smuggling and damage drug cartels, according to CBSNews.com. Arizonans will vote in November 2016 on Proposition 205, which could legalize recreational marijuana, which supporters say will expose drug cartels to business competition.
According to Lohud.com, recent court records show that Vireo Health, parent company of Minnesota Medical Solutions and Vireo Health New York, has been accused of illegally taking approximately $500,000 of medical cannabis oil from Minnesota and smuggling it into New York.

One of the reasons why Colorado regulators cap marijuana production is to prevent a huge surplus of marijuana. If there was a huge surplus of marijuana, then it would be much easier for those in the illicit drug trade to smuggle it out of the state.
