The Pelican State is one step closer to having an operational medical marijuana program. On Sept. 22, 2017, Southern University’s Board of Supervisors selected Advanced Biomedics to be the school’s medical marijuana vendor.
BATON ROUGE, La., Sept. 22, 2017 /Weed Wire/ — Southern University has selected Lafayette based Advanced Biomedics, LLC as the University’s medical marijuana cultivation and production facility operator. The decision was voted on by the University’s Board of Supervisors during its Sept. 22 board meeting.
The Southern University medical cannabis program is one step closer to becoming an operational reality. On July 19, 2017, Southern University announced that it had received seven medical cannabis cultivator applications.
On April 3, 2017, GB Sciences (OTCQB:GBLX) announced that it had submitted an offer to cultivate, extract, process and produce medical cannabis for Louisiana State University, one of two state-sanctioned medical cannabis cultivators.
On Feb. 23, 2017, Louisiana’s Southern University Land-Grant Campus held a town hall meeting on medical marijuana, providing attendees information on the university’s plans to move forward with the state’s medical marijuana program.

On Oct. 7, 2016, the Louisiana State University Agricultural Center announced that it will hold a public forum on Oct. 28 to discuss Louisiana’s medical marijuana program as it concerns the LSU AgCenter.
On June 24, 2016, the Louisiana State University Board of Supervisors and the Southern University Board of Supervisors both announced the approval of resolutions to let their agricultural centers begin the process of becoming state-sanctioned medical marijuana cultivators.
On May 19, 2016, Gov. John Bel Edwards signed Senate Bill 271, expanding the number of qualifying conditions for the state’s medical marijuana program and regulatory improvements to expedite access, as well as adding language to protect physicians, according to WAFB News.
On May 11, 2016, the Louisiana House of Representatives voted to approve SB 271, a bill designed to help kick start the state’s sputtering medical marijuana program.
