A bill that would reduce the penalties for the possession of marijuana in Texas got a hearing Monday.

House Bill 81, authored by Joe Moody and Rep. Jason Isaac, would remove the threat of arrest, jail time and a criminal record for possession of up to one ounce and replace them with a fine of up to $250.

The vote on whether the bill will continue on to the full House will likely take place in the next two weeks.
