In yet another unusual twist to a very unusual presidential campaign, a wave of fake political ads have emerged with the intention of convincing voters that Hillary Clinton, the Democratic candidate for president, is calling for tougher marijuana laws.

Bearing the Hillary Clinton campaign logo and calling on citizens to “Vote Hillary and #StopThePot,” the ads look like legitimate political advertising; however, in truth, the ads were created by a pro Donald Trump Reddit community known as /r/TheDonald, in an effort to discourage millennial voters, who overwhelmingly support marijuana legalization, from turning out in support of Hillary Clinton.

According to the The Washington Post, the #StopThePot campaign was modeled after a previous fake campaign known as #DraftOurDaughters, where Trump supporters attempted to convince voters that Hillary Clinton wanted to draft women into the military to fight a world war with Russia.

Although Clinton has been reticent to embrace full legalization, the Democratic candidate has promised that, if elected, she would reclassify marijuana as a Schedule II substance and allow states to continue to legalize marijuana.
