On Jan. 11, 2017, Vireo Health of New York, one of five medical marijuana companies licensed by the state of New York, announced that the New York State Department of Health has approved its medical marijuana delivery program, making it the first company in the state to receive such approval.
“New Yorkers have increasingly come to expect home delivery and we plan on leveraging ‘last mile’ supply chain technologies to meet and exceed patient expectations,” said Ari Hoffnung, CEO of Vireo Health of New York.
“Home delivery will not only help us to improve upon current services, but also expand our reach to those patients who are unable to travel,” added Dr. Stephen Dahmer, Vireo Health’s Chief Medical Officer.
According to the company, Vireo’s delivery vehicles will use GPS tracking devices and company employees will be the only ones allowed to handle deliveries.
Vireo’s home delivery program is expected to launch within the next 90 days and it will initially serve Long Island, Westchester and the five boroughs of New York City.
